Why an Education conference in August?

Typically, conferences are aimed to begin after teachers have settled into their school settings, but what about when teachers are feeling hopeful and inspired right before the new school year starts?

This time of the year is the time when educators feel recharged after their holidays, excited about the possibilities of a new group of students, and not yet overwhelmed by the intensity of the first month. Many conferences have cost implications and require preparations for professional development applications some time in advance and are offered only in a single time zone. Drive Conference is a response to this untapped niche of possibility for eager and inspired educators.

What is the big idea?

Our main goal is to contribute to changing education by generating practical ideas, strategies and tools that educators can adapt and adopt as they embark on a new school year. We offer a free opportunity for educators to build on their inspiration and plan for micro-actionable goals they can implement straight away.

LEARNING ACTIVATORS

Learning Activators are all the educators who either lead a session or make a keynote presentation. They receive a stipend for their contribution and a free IC course of their choice.

Drive is an inclusive and diverse conference that values everyone’s voice. It is therefore an intentional choice to have a whole range of Learning Activators; authors, PreK12 teachers, school leaders, coaches, consultants, counsellors, entrepreneurs, NGO or institution representatives, and so on.

Sessions shall be led with the intention to give participants a voice and an opportunity to interact with one another. We encourage Learning Activators to design their session with an action-oriented mindset so that educators can start the school year with some concrete actions to implement in their context.

We are thrilled to announce that our Keynote speaker to end the conference will be Yong Zhao.

The conference schedule and the full list of activators will be posted in July. Stay tuned!

LEARNING Sessions

Drive offers two different learning experiences:

  • Atelier: An atelier is a 50-min interactive session where the learning activator creates opportunities for participants to think and learn about one topic to ultimately make connections with their context and plan actions and/or actionable goals.

  • Keynote: A keynote is a presentation made by a guest speaker.

Full schedule available on TeacherWit

All participants receive a conference kit with routines and tools that they can use to create and plan their next moves.
